Appoquinimink Friends Meetinghouse, also known as the Odessa Friends Meetinghouse, is a very small but historic Quaker meetinghouse on Main Street in Odessa, Delaware.
It was built in 1785 by David Wilson and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1972 and you’ll enjoy seeing what is claimed to be the smallest brick house of worship in the United States at just 20 feet by 22 feet.
Members of the meeting, including John Hunn and his cousin John Alston, were active in the Underground Railroad and fined for helping fugitive slaves.
In 1938, the building was restored the building and has been open for worship since 1939.
Logistics:
The Meeting house is located on West Main Street (Route 299), in Odessa, Delaware. It is just west on Main Street at the Odessa Route 13 traffic light. There is a small parking area across Main Street.
Hours:
The meeting house is not generally open to the public. If you are interested in meeting for worship, service is held every first and third Sunday of the month at 10:00am.
