About The Bellanca Airfield Museum and Delaware Aviation Hall of Fame

Located at Delaware’s historic Air Service Hangar, the Bellanca Airfield Museum and Delaware Aviation Hall of Fame is the site of early 20th century aircraft construction and aviation research. Operating from 1928 to 1960, the site served as the first full-service public aviation center in Delaware.

Learn about the life and innovations of the constructor of the Bellanca planes, Giuseppe M. Bellanca, and take a look at the US built aircrafts at the famed hangar. Included in the museum is the Media Library, a room where you can research aviation in America, view DVDs and VHS tapes, read literature, and even practice on a flight simulator.

Tours:
The Museum is open for self guided tours on all second and fourth Saturdays from April thru October.

The Museum is open every second and fourth Saturday from April through October. Occasional events and demonstrations may be held on-site for the public outside these times, check the Bellanca Airfield Museum official website for details.

2nd and 4th Saturday of the month: 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM.

Fun Facts

  • Giuseppe Mario Bellanca, the innovator behind the Bellanca aircrafts manufactured and presented in the Museum, was a student of Fiorello La Guardia, the future mayor of New York City and La Guardia International Airport’s namesake.
  • Bellanca collaborated with the Wright Brothers on one of the first transatlantic aircrafts, bringing pilot Clarence Chamberlin from New York to Germany in 1927.
  • The media room inside the Museum served as the old engine room, with some historical artifacts from the era still on display.
  • Bellanca’s final plane design took flight in 1973 and still maintains four world speed records
