Dutch House Museum

About The Dutch House Museum

The Dutch House is among the oldest homes in Delaware, dating around 1680. The home was built during English occupation and serves as a time capsule for Dutch architectural stylings as well as English craftsmanship.

Explore furnishings and decor representative of the 17th century, from cooking equipment to appliances and fixtures, while a tour guide brings you back through Dutch history in the area. Learn about the Dutch family that once resided here with the aid of artifacts such as a Bible from the year 1714 and an authentic Dutch cupboard.

Tours:
Guided tours of the Dutch House Museum are available and included in your admission. Tickets can also be purchased for tours at both the Dutch House and Amstel House museums.

On street parking is available throughout the Historic New Castle area.

Hours:
The house is open to tours April through December.

Saturday: 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Sunday: 12:00 – 4:00 PM

Admission:
Tickets for the Dutch House are $4 ($1.50 for children). Combined tickets may also be purchased for $7 ($2.50 for children). This ticket includes admission to the Amstel House Museum as well.

Fun Facts

  • Due to streets having been raised and repaved throughout history, the doorstep of the Dutch House is actually below street level.
  • Although the style of the home is undoubtedly Dutch, as were the original owners and occupants, it was discovered during renovations that English building methods were used.
  • The garden outside the Dutch House contains tulips, the national flower of The Netherlands.
  •  The furnishings inside the home are authentic to the colonial period in New Castle and Dutch heritage.
