About The Kalmar Nyckel

Head down to The Wharf to experience the authentic replica of the famed Tall Ship of Delaware! Learn more about local maritime history and set sail on a river cruise aboard the iconic Swedish colonial ship.

On the Kalmar Nyckel, you can learn about the ship’s impressive history from carrying settlers to America to her retirement as a Dutch warship, all while visiting ports-of-call all along the Eastern Seabord. The ship sails daily in summer months, allowing hundreds of opportunities to learn and experience her glory. In the winter, the ship turns into an interactive museum with available tours and special events.

The venue is also perfect for gatherings and functions, and can be rented out for your events and programs.

Tours:
Cruises range from 90 minute river cruises to day sails and dockside tours. The sailing season lasts from April to October, subject to weather.

  • The Kalmar Nyckel serves as a floating classroom and education site for over 30,000 people per year.
  • Today’s Kalmar Nyckel was launched into the Christina River in 1997 200 yards from the original landing site.
  • Colonists on the original Kalmar Nyckel in the year 1638 founded the colony of New Sweden, and is regarded as the “Swedish Mayflower of the Delaware Valley.”
