Broadkill Beach

Beauty and Play Along the Delaware Bay

Broadkill Beach offers you direct waterfront beach access to the Delaware Bay for swimming, kayaking, stand-up paddleboard, surf fishing, and other water-oriented activities. The community borders the bayside edge of Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge, making it a ideal location for nature lovers and bird watchers, in addition to other wildlife.

In 2000 Broadkill Beach became the first Horseshoe Crab Sanctuary in the state of Delaware, thanks to its residents commitment to ecological conservation.

Located off of Delaware Route 1 at the terminus of Route 16, you’ll enter the unincorporated beach community after passing through a portion of Prime Hook NWR.  Many first time visitors compare Broadkill Beach’s remoteness to the Outer Banks of North Carolina, but on a smaller scale. The older section of Broadkill, dating from the mid-20th century, lies just south and north of the intersection of Route 16 and Bayshore Drive.

The town’s wonderful remote, private feeling is in part due to the limited amount of businesses. The Broadkill Store, a general store which sells sandwiches, grocery items, bait & tackle, beach toys, souvenirs and homemade donuts on the weekends, will supply with many provisions. Rentals for kayaks and stand-up paddleboards can even be arranged at the store.

Come visit in the summer if you enjoy a good Fourth of July Parade.  The family friendly event is held by residents each year, and with the right views, you can witness fireworks from Cape May, NJ, Lewes, Rehoboth Beach, DE and other local towns.

If you’re looking for a slower pace with beautiful sights and sounds, and outdoor activities, every day of the year is a perfect time to visit Broadkill Beach.
